Boys & Girls Clubs of the Virginia Peninsula
What Does Hero Mean?
The mission is to inspire and enable all young people, especially those who are most in need to reach their full potential as productive, caring and responsible citizens. Boys & Girls Clubs provide a wide array of development opportunities to youth ages 6-18 at 13 Club sites on the Virginia Peninsula. When a child walks or runs through the doors of a local Boys & Girls Club in the cities of Hampton or Newport News or in the counties of York, Gloucester or Mathews, they are immediately embraced by a safe and welcoming family atmosphere under the guidance of caring adult staff, volunteers and mentors. During the afterschool hours and summer recess, Clubs provide expanded educational and cultural opportunities for youth to immerse themselves in that are focused on five core areas: Character & Leadership Development; Education & Career Development; Health & Life Skills; Sports, Recreation and Fitness and The Arts.
